Is It Wise To Travel with Two Dogs or Cats ?

By Grant W. Fleet

For many families, the holidays wouldn't be complete without their favorite furry little family friends. In some cases, vacations have to be planned around their pets. Numerous resorts, hotels and restaurants have recognized the need to welcome guests including those of which who don't belong to our species. Many accommodations have adopted a pet-friendly environment, to get a more patronage from families who have adopted cats and dogs. However, it is best to always be prepared. If it is your first time traveling to a new location, conduct a little or better still more thorough background check. Will the place have restaurants that will cater to guests with cats or dogs? More importantly, will your hotel or resort allow your feline or mutt to stay in the room? Finding out ahead of time can help you make the necessary changes, if needed.

Vacation destinations are slowly learning to accept that there are potentially good profits in catering to families who would like to take Fido & Fluffy with them. However, it is recommended that you call the hotel or resort for clarification. Ask specific details regarding guests who have pets staying with them in their hotel or resort rooms and onsite in the resort.

Remember to bring all the necessary documentation for your adopted family member. This will include vaccination records, health certificates, and registration papers. Think of just as taking your children on a vacation and having to visit the pediatrician. This is an important requirement especially for families who need to cross borders to get to their eventual tourist destination. Prepare for the worst case scenario; bring a photo of your pet. Since it's a new place mutt or feline may want to wander around. In case they get lost, a good solid photographs or series of pictures will help people to recognize them in a pinch.

It is not uncommon for your creatures to have behavioral changes and some digestive difficulties due to stressful situations. The new place and some new faces might be overwhelming. Be prepared to provide comfort. Favorite play things can also help ease the anxiety. Other essentials include water and food. Bring a separate dish for the two. Ice cubes make water more refreshing on a hot weather. Try to put some in a thermos, if possible. Litter pans, scooper and litter bags must also be brought.

A favorite toy calms the worried or stressed canine or feline. Any object that gives comfort, from a blanket to a ball of yarn, must be handy. It will also keep them pre-occupied or distracted when you need them to be.
