Peru Tours Expose Tourists To An Enthralling World

By Kurt Lavecchia

Peru tours will take the tourist away from the well-beaten tracks of Europe and introduce one to the ancient world of Peru. This South American country provides an introduction to two decidedly intriguing empires in history. The remnants of the glorious Inca Empire and the impact of the Spanish Empire on the country provide unique insights into the world history. At the same time, its geography offers adventure tourism to excite even the most jaded of tourists.

From the moment that the plane lands in Lima, visitors are exposed to a wondrous world inhabited by people of many ethnic backgrounds. Colourful dress and a multitude of languages bedazzle newcomers. The city itself is a complete hodgepodge of architectural styles, including a range of Western styles standing side by side with indigenous Amerindian structures. Museums provide the first inkling of what can be expected in this vast land.

Every Peruvian is tremendously proud of the towns and buildings erected by the Inca at least five hundred years ago. Most tours, therefore, take one to the hub of the Inca Empire and the picturesque villages in the Sacred Valley. The Inca trail is an impressive, if slightly challenging trail, that starts with a fascinating archaeological site at the city of Ollantaytambo.

Machu Picchu has been retained in good original condition because it was not found by the Spanish invaders who despoiled so much of South America. The site was discovered a century ago by an American historian and since has become a Mecca for tourists. Preserving the site is important and most outlying buildings have been reconstructed according to original designs to allow tourists to immerse themselves in the world of the Incas.

Tours invariable include a trek across the Sacred Valley that was once the central to the Inca Empire. From here tourists wind their way up the mountains to Machu Picchu. For those who are not keen on such exertions, the cities offer an insight into the many fascinating cultures. The town of Cuzco is just the place for exploring majestic architecture and impressive ruins.

Equally exciting is a glimpse into the life of current residents and La Paz, built high in the mountains, is a bewitching city of old cobblestones and street markets. The Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas has the most magnificently decorated polychrome ceiling. Many other of the beautiful Catholic Churches are also worth a visit. The capital city, Lima, is built in a myriad of architectural styles some of which are now in ruins. For tourists seeking modern arts and an active night life, Lima is the place.

The tourist should not miss the opportunity to go canopy climbing in the Amazon jungle or kayak down the Amazon River. Explore the rain forest and be transported into an ancient world of tall trees and thick undergrowth. Take a trip to the Nazca Desert and view the arid land on which the mysterious Nazca lines are drawn.

There is so much of interest for visitors to this part of South America. Peru Tours are available to suit every interest but once one has ventured into this exciting world, a single tour is never enough. Visitors simply keep coming back for more.
