If you are in town, but just for a single day, you certainly can't expect to see all that the area has to offer. However, you can plan out a day of adventure. Here are some suggestions for those who can spend just one day in Los Angeles.
The county of Los Angeles offers hundreds of amazing places to visits, but with more than 9 million residents and 4,000 square miles, seeing it all in one day is impossible. So instead of worrying about what you will miss, take advantage of some of the cool things that you can see, such as a trip to Southern California's famous coastline.
So, with that in mind, start off your day with a breakfast by the sea. Santa Monica, a place where you can enjoy the beach, is Southern California's most iconic pier with plenty of quirky shops and people watching. There are plenty of cafes, bakeries and coffeehouses where you can grab a quick breakfast and then walk over to the pier and ride the carousel, Ferris wheel and roller coaster in Pacific Park.
Los Angeles has many museums and historic sites, but few date as far back in history as the Mission San Gabriel Arcangel and the Mission San Fernando Rey. The first was completed in 1771 and the second was built in 1797. Both of these missions were part of a network of missions built during the 18th century by the Spaniards. The missions began in Mexico and run along the historic El Camino Real. Both of these missions offer daily tours just about every day of the year.
New York might have Central Park, but here in L.A., we have Griffith Park which is just as big and impressive. In fact, it's actually bigger and the second largest park in the United States with more than 4,300 acres. In addition to a planetarium complete with the Griffith Observatory, there is the Los Angeles Zoo to enjoy and Travel Town, a railroad museum. You can also grab a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
After enjoying some time at the park or visiting a mission, drive on over to Culver City and enjoy a culinary confection like no other at YoKuMon. This eatery offers a wide assortment of treats, but the most popular offering is the gourmet ice cream sandwich, which is just $2 and is created by placing a substantial scoop of homemade ice cream in between two large cookies.
